Leonard Russell: Learning Your Craft

Once I was asked if I had any advice for an athlete, what would it be. I promptly answered, Learn Your Craft.

I began playing sports at the age of eight and was lucky enough to have a six-year career in the National Football League. The biggest lesson I learned during my playing days was that you had to prepare to succeed.

Learn as much as you can about the sport you play because that' will to give you an advantage over your opponent. Never be afraid to ask your coach questions if you are not sure about what you're doing or why you are doing it.

Watch film to better understand what your opponent is trying to do to beat you. Watching film also helps you see the areas of the game that you need to improve.

Being prepared before every game will give you the confidence to know that you're ready for everything your opponent will throw at you.

Always remember "Today's Preparation Will Determine Tomorrow's Achievement." Work hard and success will follow.
